Musical Extraordinaire, King of Pop, Michael Jackson

I guess most people of my age group especially in Malaysia and Singapore wouldn't connect with MJ's music.
We were born into an era of his contemporaries. Of Backstreet Boys and NSync and Usher and Black Eyed Peas and Green Day, Jay Chou, Wang Lee Hom, Mayday, JJ Lin and many many more.
We were born into an era of the beginning of his decline. I am sad that I never experienced his heyday. The 1980s days of Thriller and Bad or even the even earlier days of Motown and Jackson 5.
I read this Facebook post this afternoon of my friend thinking Michael Jackson had died some 10 years ago and wondering what was all the fuss about today. I was absolutely appalled by his nonchalent attitude towards this musical icon. He has done so much for the music industry, too much to mention. So much of what we are listening to today are imitations of his creative output. But then again, no blame on him as I guess we were born to late to taste the full package of The King of Pop.
Its odd for me that Michael Jackson has played such a significant part in my life. I remember tellling my friends that I enjoyed Michael Jackson and getting weird looks. I used to type Michael Jackson as one of my favourite artists under Friendster and Facebook.
I remember when I was much younger, I added this guy called Michael Jackson as my friend in ICQ. Never knewing if this was the real him or an impersonator. The innocent me even went as far as to send offline messages to him saying hi and introducing myself. His status was never online and he never replied my messages. Leaving me slightly disappointed.
In the days before Youtube, I used to buy those pirated VCDs of his music videos and concerts and for the first time in my life, I saw morbid fans screaming and crying and fainting during concerts.
From then, I kinda decided that I wanted to be a superstar, I wanted to be famous and earn the adoration of so many people. Branching into music as a career.

Well, Michael Jackson, I hope that you will finally find peace in Heaven. Peace was never close to you when you were on Earth. Thank you for all your amazing and smashing creative output. Thank you for trying to Heal the World. Unite all Black and White. You rocked my world, you know you did. God bless ;-)
